Imperial Eagle (Eagle baptized) - Eastern imperial eagle - Aquila heliaca
This is a rare and endangered species which is in disappearance from Macedonia. Its wingspan is up to 210 cm and it weighs 4.5 kg. It makes large nests on the high, old trees which are alone or in the forests. Its hunting area are open terrains: prairies, pastures, agricultural land and others. It mainly eats small mammals, pigeons, crows and other birds, with snakes, turtles, lizards, rabbits, hedgehogs and so. It incubates 2-3 eggs, but it has a very small average success in raising youngs. It is found in the valley north of the gorge Demir Kapija, where because of the lack of favorable natural nesting site, it makes nests on high voltage lines. The people belief that the Eagle Baptized protects the field and the farmers from storms and hail.
